"It has begun, the drumbeat has started, the hushed whispers are being overheard in fly shops, the “IRON MAN FLY CONTEST 2018” is almost here. The battle of the fly tiers is just around the corner and the contestants are preparing!"
Can you hear it….the countdown has started! Are you ready for the Great Smoky Mountain Trout Unlimited chapter event of the winter? Join us on the evening of Thursday, January 18th, 2018 at 6 P.M. as the “IRON MAN FLY CONTEST 2018” descends on our new host location, the famous Twin Peaks Restaurant in Knoxville, Tennessee.
This is truly fly tying with a mission as the competitors compete for prizes with the greatest reward being raising money to help send a deserving boy or girl ages 12- 15 years old to “TROUT CAMP” each summer in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The entry fee from the competitors goes directly to pay the camp tuition fee for the sponsored boy or girl and for many families it is the only chance their child can go to summer camp due to limited funds.
As always our great sponsors like 3 Rivers Angler. Little River Angler, Orvis-Sevierville, Smoky Mountain Angler, and of course the SOUTHERN TROUT MAGAZINE crew led by the infamous Don Kirk make possible the prizes to the competitors. The field is limited to just 20 fly tiers so get your entry in early by emailing email@example.com to reserve your spot today. Your $30 entry fee and chance to win great gear goes far beyond this evening on Thursday January 18th, 2018. You help send a boy or girl to experience for some their first outdoor adventure of fishing, conservation education and yes even fly tying in the most beautiful National Park in the world.
Everyone who comes out that night to cheer on the fly tiers at Twin Peaks Restaurant located at 135 N. Northshore in Knoxville, TN, will enjoy literally the coldest beer on tap and food to please any appetite. Come early as the crowd get bigger every year as we welcome the New Year for a great cause.
