Kevin Howell and Co. has announced it winter schedule for winter classes.

 

Basic Fly Tying with J.E.B. Hall, Session One

Saturday, December 9, 2017, 9:00am to 1:00pm, $20 per person

Designed for those individuals who have an interest in fly tying but have never tied before; this class will teach you how to use all of the tools and tie a basic fly like a San Juan Worm.

 

Basic Fly Tying with J.E.B. Hall, Session Two

Saturday, December 16, 2017, 9:00am to 1:00pm, $20 per person

Session two will review the tolls and concepts learned in session one and continue to build skills while learning to tie the basic Wooly Bugger and similar flies.

 

Fly Tying 101 (4-week session)

January 8, 15, 22 & 29, 6pm to 8pm, $35 per person

This class is designed to get you off to a good start. The first class will focus on hook nomenclature, tools and how to use them, and fly tying vises. Over the course of the four sessions, students will learn to tie the San Juan Worm, Woolly Bugger, Elk Hair Caddis, and similar patterns. Participants will also learn fly proportions and how to scale material to the size of the hook they are using.  DRO will supply vises, tools and all materials needed.

 

Fly Tying 101 (Single session)

Saturday, January 13, 9 am to 4 pm, $35 per person

Tying Soft Hackle & Tenkara Flies with Landon Lipke

Saturday, January 20, 2018, 9 am to 4 pm, $35 per person

Learn to tie traditional Tenkara and soft hackle style flies with Landon Lipke, our Tenkara expert. DRO will supply vises, tools and all materials needed. 

 

Tying Musky Flies 

Saturday, January 27, 2018, 9 am to 4 pm, $35 per person

This class will focus on tying flies that have a large and bulky profile while retaining a light and castable weight. . DRO will supply vises, tools and all materials needed. 

 

Tying Terrestrials with Landon Lipke

Friday, February 9, 2018, 9 am to 4 pm, $35 per person

This class will focus on tying replicas of land born insects that trout find so incredibly delicious.  Flies covered will include ants, beetles, hoppers, and crickets.  DRO will supply vises, tools and all materials needed.

 

Fly Tying 201 (4-week session)

Mondays, February 5, 12, 19 & 26, 6pm to 8pm, $35 per person

Class participants will build on the skills they learned in the 101 class. You will learn to work with rubber legs and hackles. By the end of the class, you will be able to tie Parachutes and Wulffs, as well as stonefly nymphs. Flies to be tied include the Prince Nymph, Kevin's Stonefly, Bead-Head Pheasant Tail, Cahill, Stimulator, and Parachute Adams.  DRO will supply vises, tools and all materials needed.

 

Tying Bass Flies with Walker Parrott

Saturday, February 10, 2018, 9 am to 4 pm, $35 per person

Learn to tie productive and attractive flies for Bass and Panfish.  DRO will supply vises, tools and all materials needed.

 

Tying Articulated Streamers with Landon Lipke

Saturday, February 17, 2018, 9 am to 4 pm, $35 per person

Learn to tie flies that swim and come to life in the water.  DRO will supply vises, tools and all materials needed.

 

Tying Midges with Jeff Furman

Saturday, February 24, 2018, 9 am to 4 pm, $35 per person

This class will focus on size 16 and smaller flies that are commonly used in the surrounding tailwater and Davidson River. DRO will supply vises, tools and all materials needed.
