leah kirk

The Appalachia Trail used by fly fishermen to access the headwaters of many trout streams in the Shenandoah National Park’s closed 17.5 miles of the footpath for 9 days by wild fires. The second largest fire in park history, it burned over 10,326 acres of SHEN’s south district. This occurred despite   efforts of 354 firefighters and from the air with both fixed winged aircraft and helicopters.  Park resource are now anxious to observe how the forest recovers, and the fire's impact on forest ecology.
