The Thunderhead is a dry fly that was the brainchild of the late fly tier, Fred Hall of Bryson City, North Carolina. This fly is regarded as a traditional Smoky Mountains pattern very productive fly on all  Southern Appalachian streams.  The Thunderhead resembles many dark mayflies found in southern freestone streams. Wulff style wings make the Thunderhead easy keep track of in the broken waters of these mountain streams. One interesting variation is substituting fur from the belly of a opossum for kip tail
