Rainbow trout season at Madison County Public Fishing Lake begins Friday, November 25, 2016. To fish for trout, anglers must have a $5 daily trout permit in addition to a valid fishing license. The lake will be open Friday through Sunday in December and January, but closed on Christmas and New Year's Day. Madison County Lake is located 11 miles east of Huntsville in Gurley.
While not known as a trout state, the Madison County Public Fishing Lake stocking with rainbow trout is not unique to that water this time of year. Additionally, the Sipsey River in North Alabama and the stream at Tannehill State Park near Tuscaloosa receive rainbow trout.
